Today’s Why We Make Music: Universal language time!

Watch how long the new arrival *listened* before jumping in. They establish tentative dialogue with some bumps and false starts. Then they *continued to listen* to each other, which resulted in more seamless collaboration. By the end they were playing each others’ parts comfortably/fluently, intuitively trading off, echoing, highlighted each others’ lines & differences.

THIS is why I teach my students to play music together. Two of my oldest are already exhibit these very, very important communication habits. I am so proud of them. This is why I always say: That they happen to play the piano now? That’s bonus! Learning music is so much more than being able to play an instrument.
