Why I Teach Music: A short story from Metro Gnome Studio!
Last night during a lesson my student said, “I like to practice by myself.” (vs. practicing with her mom).
This is very, very common for kids her age, but I asked why anyway because I’ve learned that they ALWAYS surprise me. I’m so glad I asked. She said, “Because I keep banging my head on the piano!”
“Why are you throwing your face at the piano?”
“Mom keeps making me laugh during practice!”
Today, an email from her mom: “[She] is always so happy when she comes home from piano lesson! Thank you for doing such a great job!”
I gave her (the mom) a bunch of credit for doing her part in the Suzuki triangle because, clearly, she is totally rocking that part.
